Full Name: Binali Mehta
Favorite Color: Lavender and Purple
Dancing – I started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 6. After seven years of training, I learned Bollywood contemporary dance forms and competed at regional level in Gujarat, India.
Painting and sketching – A big fan of a night where I could light a couple candles, put on some soothing music, have a glass of wine and paint (usually a scenery).
My other interests include outdoors adventures such as hiking, biking tails, ariel courses, skydiving and water sports such as jet skiing, parasailing and/or snorkeling. I also love to practice yoga or meditation by water bodies. Other than that, I enjoy community service in my free time. I am affiliated with Unbound Child Sponsorship and Big Brother Big Sisters organization. I also enjoy volunteering at Food Banks, Daily Bread Ministries, and Habitat for humanity in DMV area whenever I am presented with an opportunity.
What are you doing presently?
I am pursuing Master’s in Information Systems Technology at the George Washington University and working as a Configuration Specialist at Aon Hewitt.
What are your future plans?
After graduating with master’s degree, I want to work as a Software/Database Project Manager. In terms of long term goals, I wish to teach at Community College after a decade of work experience, and it is my dream to open my dance studio for kids and adults.
Why do you want to participate in the pageant?
I believe this pageant gives me a chance to showcase my talent and indulge further into my Indian Heritage. It is a great opportunity to explore myself as this is not something I had ever imagined participating in. I anticipate it helping me strengthen self-confidence by giving me an opportunity to articulate my skills onstage. I am hoping to meeting other contestants and our interaction turning into lifelong friendships.
Talent you plan to do for pageant (Please include song name if doing a dance, this can be changed later):
Dance on madhuri dixit songs.
What 3 words sum you up?
1. Assertive – I usually speak my mind and give an honest opinion, in humble and respectful manner, obviously!
2. Determined – when I set my mind on something, I assure to create a strategy that leads me to the end goal and follow through it
3. Compassionate – I was raised to practice empathy and sympathy towards other. I can say I inherited the compassionate nature from my mother.
What is an interesting fact about you that not many know?
One of my passions is to reach out to unprivileged children. Through this, I have always wanted to adopt a kid and possibly open an orphanage. I distinctly remember researching immigration and adoption laws in America in order to understand what was necessary for adopting an orphan from India and Africa.
If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?
When I struggle to find parking, I always wish to have the power to make my car invisible and make it float in the air, haha.
On a serious note, if I were a super hero I would love to cure negative thinking. It’s heartbreaking to see people not fully living their lives to its potential because of self-inflicted wounds/negative thoughts.
If you could take three things to a deserted island what would they be and why?
– My sister – experiences like this are better enjoyed with a company! Can she also bring three more things? 😉
– Unlimited supply of fruits and vegetables juices – to keep me hydrated, also a good substitute for food
– A lighter knife – a combination of a lighter and knife to set fire, hunt for food, as well as for self-protection
Most embarrassing moment:
It has to the vacation in Bahamas when I got motion sick. I went to a glass-bottom boat tour with my family and 7 other people. Before we could make it to the middle of the ocean, I got motion sick and could not stop throwing up. They had to cut the tour short because of me and bring us back to the shore before we could see any sea creatures. So embarrassed to have ruined other passengers’ experience!
As cliché as it may sound, I think mankind is my biggest inspiration. Every interaction with another human being is a learning opportunity. I believe, those little experiences have a significant meaning and contribution to who I am as a person.
So many! To name a few, losing my family, living life without any purpose, and becoming a reason for somebody else’s misery.
If you knew today was your last day on Earth, how would you spend it?
Without a doubt, I would spend the entire day with my family and loved ones. I would love to watch the sunrise and the sunset to reflect upon the amazing memories (P.S. It’s my last day so I get to be a little emo haha). Maltese is my favorite puppy, so I would buy the puppy to spend joyful moments with it. Then, since it’s my last day, I would gift the puppy to my sister to carry over the happiness and endless affection that she has brought to my life. Last but not least, I would eat ALL kinds of desserts that I possibly could. Who cares about gaining a few pounds in exchange for the deliciousness of these treats, right?
Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten:
Growing up, my dad always told me “Kisi ko waqt se pehle or kismat se jyada kuch nahi milta,” which essentially can be translated to “Always give your best and be patient because what’s meant to be for you will never miss you, and will arrive at the right time.”
Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
You know, the usual: a diamond on my finger, rocking a Jimmy Choo stilettos, water facing condo and keys to the Benz. LOL
Personally, subjective happiness is the ultimate goal in my life. I want to be able to carry that out after 10 years as well. What would bring me that happiness in 10 years is having my own family, adopting and nurturing an orphan and contentment within the personal and professional sectors of my life. Furthermore, I envision myself impacting others’ lives in a positive way.
