My hobbies are really never-ending. I have learned south -Indian traditional dace -Kuchipudi since I was four years old. I love art and being able to express myself on screen. All thanks to my parents for helping me learn. Lastly, fashion was a hobby developed on my own and I truly enjoy reading fashion magazines and blogs during my free time.
What are you doing presently?
I graduated and working at The World Bank.
What are your future plans?
To be successful in anything I pursue.
Why do you want to participate in the pageant?
I would like to participate in the Miss India DC pageant because I think it is a great way for people like myself to showcase their culture and their talent. When I first heard about it, I didn’t think the pageant was for me, but later I felt like I have to do it because Its definitely going to improve my confidence and make me overcome my feelings of being different from rest the girls that were brought up in the USA. I ’m incredibly excited to be a contestant this year.
Talent you plan to do for pageant (Please include song name if doing a dance, this can be changed later):
What 3 words sum you up?
Focused– When I set my mind on a goal, I stay focused on the small steps I need to take to achieve that goal. No matter what other activities surround me, I make sure to use my time wisely to work towards my objective.
Caring- My culture has taught me morals in life I will never forget. I value my culture greatly as it has molded me into the individual I am today. I’m not only passionate about my culture, but also the cultures of others.
Enthusiastic- No matter what activity, I like to do everything with a smile on my face and with all my heart dedicated to it.
What is an interesting fact about you that not many know?
I have only been in this country for 2years and taught myself English a year before coming here. I’m the first person from my village who got on flight, crossed 7seas. I had no mentor or guide showing me how to do things. I came here and figured everything out on my own.
My entry into this country is as exciting as Charlie when he stepped into the Chocolate factory. Everyday, I feel as this is just a dream. Whatever it is , I am loving and living the dream here in the USA…I am Sanjana and I want to leave my mark.
If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?
I would like to switch the life cycle of human from older age to younger age. Lot of benefits through that. Few of them like:
· As time passes we turn younger. not older.
· Responsibilities will be reduced.
· No need to worry about health issues
If you could take three things to a deserted island what would they be and why?
MY FAMILY & FRIENDS: When I’m with them it really doesn’t matter me where I’m.
MY HOME: the place where heaven is.
GENIE: He can get me anything and everything I want for free.
Most embarrassing moment:
People may have embarrassing moments from their childhood, but I don’t feel that I had any embarrassing moment. I always look at the positive side of incidents and if possible learn from it I believe everything happens for a reason. So NO embarrassing moment.
My inspiration are my parents and the family I currently live with. Because of them, I have learned to never lose patience and hope in any kind of situation, they always try to solve everything with positive attitude and made me realize that always believing in myself makes me think big to get what I want from my life. These two families inspired me in every path of my life.
To fail at anything I am passionate about.
If you knew today was your last day on Earth, how would you spend it?
I would spend my last day on earth with my family and tell them, especially my mom, how much I love them. I would max out my credit cards and eat as much as I want and not worry about calories or workout.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten:
I like this 2,000-year-old advice by Rabbi Hillel: “If I am not for me, who will be? If I am only for me, what am I? If not now, when?” I think it means: “Sort yourself out, protect yourself and ensure your own survival – if you don’t, you can achieve nothing. However, selfishness is empty, so ensure that you make a positive difference to others, and do it now.”
Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
Ten years down the road I see myself growing into a manager, where I’ll be able to use my skills. I hope to lead a happy life with my family and stand as a role model for my kids and also to the younger generation both in my family and to my village. I also want to start a nursing home that facilities a high level of care to elders.
