Height: 5’ 6”
I love to dance and have been doing it for many years now. I have learned many different styles and also started my own Bollywood dance company, called RaagaDC, with my friend Shreya Navile in 2011. We have been performing, competing and teaching together ever since.
I also really enjoy doing volunteer work because I think giving back to the community and helping the less fortunate is very important. I volunteer weekly at Shady Grove Hospital and I especially love helping at cultural events or with organizations directly benefitting the South Asian population in both the United States and their own countries. I have worked at the Iskcon Temple and the Hindu Temple and also participated in fundraising events for MA Center DC and AID India, Association for India’s Development.
I am currently a student at Sidwell Friends School but in college I would like to major in Bio-Medical Engineering and eventually go to Medical School to pursue a career in medicine.
Why you entered The Miss India-DC Pageant?
I would like to participate in the Miss India Pageant this year because I think it is a wonderful opportunity for me to showcase my individual talent while participating in a culturally enriching event. I also believe that as a participant in this pageant, I would be representing the young Indian community in the larger diverse society of the DMV.
What 3 words sum you up?
Hard-working – So far in my life, I have tried to work diligently at whatever I do, whether it be schoolwork, dance performances, community service, or helping out at my family’s business.
Determined –I have never been one to give up on anything easily. I have always been very determined to complete any task I start and to make it as good as possible.
Friendly – I love meeting and getting to know new people so I never shy away from an opportunity to talk to someone I haven’t met before.
What is an interesting fact about you that not many know?
I was born and raised here but I spent a year studying at a boarding school, called GD Goenka, in Gurgaon, India.
If you could take three things to a desert island what would they be and why?
If I were going to take only 3 things to a desert island with me, I would take my iPod, my favorite book, 2 States by Chetan Bhagat, and if possible, someone fun to talk to as company. All 3 of these things would help keep me busy and pass the time.
My mother, she is the most incredible and hardest working woman I have ever seen. I have an amazing relationship with her and I hope that when I am a mom myself, I share a similar relationship with my own kids.
If you knew today was your last day on Earth, how would you spend it?
I actually have a bucket list of things I would like to do before I die so I would like to do as many of those things on my list as possible.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever gotten:
Keep your priorities in order.
Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
In 10 years, I hope to be happy and successful in whatever I am doing, whether that is pursuing a career in medicine or travelling or starting a family.
